Black River Bullmastiffs today announced the upcoming Bullmastiff puppies for sale event in April 2012. Black River is an award winning Bullmastiff dog breeder based in Williamsville, Missouri. The breeder has won awards at the Hutchinson Kennel Club and the Holland Mission Kennel Club. The company is now accepting deposits for the puppies which are due in spring 2012.
Poplar Bluff, Missouri, January 26, 2012- Black River Bullmastiffs today announced the upcoming Bullmastiff puppies for sale event in April 2012. Black River is an award winning Bullmastiff dog breeder based in Williamsville, Missouri. The breeder has won awards at the Hutchinson Kennel Club and the Holland Mission Kennel Club. The company is now accepting deposits for the puppies which are due in spring 2012.
The Bullmastiff was introduced in 1860 when an Old English Bulldog and a Mastiff were cross bred in an effort to help gamekeepers protect their deer and flocks from game poachers. The Mastiff was ineffective at helping the gamekeepers protect their deer and the bulldog was too small to even consider it as an option. The solution was to mix the breeds to produce a dog that was up for the challenge of being a protector of the gamekeeper’s estate and flock.

Eventually the Bullmastiff dog was used to help the owners in other areas of the estate such as a sentry or as a guard dog to watch over the family inside the house and to protect the owner’s property. The army and police soon began using the dogs in the field which proved somewhat successful as it kept the breed alive and allowed it to flourish.
The crossbreeding between the Mastiff and the Bulldog continued to work well for the gamers who were now breeding their own dogs, but eventually a purebred line was formed which allowed the dog to have its own identity. And in 1924 some conformity was established by Bullmastiff breeders and it was finally recognized by the English Kennel Club in 1924.
